Branch 03 · The Exits
Build — The Exits
Jack Phan co-founded ReliableRemodeler.com, grew it onto the Inc. 500, and exited to QuinStreet (NASDAQ: QNST) in a deal valued at more than $25 million — then kept reinventing his own role across a string of companies.
In 2001, Jack co-founded ReliableRemodeler.com with Eric Doebele and served as CTO. Bootstrapped from scratch, it ranked #187 on the 2007 Inc. 500 of fastest-growing private companies and was acquired by QuinStreet (NASDAQ: QNST) in a deal valued at more than $25 million. Jack stayed on through QuinStreet’s IPO to earn out his equity.
Serial reinvention
The exits were never the point — the reinvention was. Across the years that followed, Jack moved deliberately through different seats at the table:
- Digital Trends — VP of Strategy / Entrepreneur in Residence
- Money Crashers — President & COO
- AGEIST — CTO
- AirDeck AI — CMO, then CEO
- PhanZu — founder (co-founded with Willamette Week publisher Mark Zusman)
Each move was a chance to learn a new function from the inside — engineering, marketing, operations, the CEO seat — rather than repeat a known win.
